Ireland Product Updates effective January 2022
Please note that our products and policy wordings have been updated for new business and renewals with an effective date of 1st January 2022 and onwards. You can view all new product documentation on the Document Centre.
Here's a summary of the key updates:
All products
- Update to registered office address.
- Update to website link containing information of the insurers.
- Update weblink for the Plum Privacy Policy.
- Update address of the Data Protection Officer.
- Add in definition for flood and embolden where shown elsewhere within the wording.
- Add in definition for storm and embolden where shown elsewhere within the wording.
- Add into general exclusions damage caused by mica.
- Add additional general exclusion regarding infectious diseases.
Flex
- Update definition of Europe.
- Increase contents in garages and outbuildings limit from €7,500 to €10,000.
- Amend definitions of precious metals within definitions of valuables to exclude jewellery and/or watches.
- Amend Building Works exclusion 5 to clarify that the exclusion only applies if we are covering theft or attempted theft.
- In respect of loss of rent/alternative accommodation) add an exclusion relating to lodgers/paying guests unless we otherwise agree.
- In respect of squatters add an exclusion relating to lodgers/paying guests unless we otherwise agree.
Let
- Amend Building Works exclusion 5 to clarify that the exclusion only applies if we are covering theft or attempted theft.
- Under Section 1 - Buildings and Section 2 - Contents, peril 6 (Theft or attempted Theft) under ‘We will not pay’ update point b) to:
- b) for loss or damage resulting from theft or attempted theft from the home unless as a result of violent and forcible entry or exit other than any loss or damage which is covered under additional cover M – Theft or attempted theft by Tenant(s).
- Under Section 1 - Buildings and Section 2 - Contents, peril 8 update to clarify cover:
- 8. any person taking part in a riot, violent disorder, strike, labour disturbance, civil commotion or acting maliciously. This would include any malicious damage by your tenant(s).
- Under Section 5 – Landlords Legal Expenses reintroduce definition of guarantor.
Retreat
- Increase contents in garages and outbuildings limit from €2,500 to €5,000.
- Under definition of Contents under ‘Contents does not include’ update motor vehicles bullet point to clarify that electrically assisted pedal cycles are covered within the contents.
- Amend Building Works exclusion 5 to clarify that the exclusion only applies if we are covering theft or attempted theft.
Unoccupied
- Amend Building Works exclusion 5 to clarify that the exclusion only applies if we are covering theft or attempted theft.
- Under Section 1 - Buildings and Section 2 - Contents, peril 6 (Theft or attempted Theft) under ‘We will not pay’ update point b) to:
- b) for loss or damage resulting from theft or attempted theft from the property unless as a result of violent and forcible entry or exit.

- Under definition of Contents amend ‘Contents includes’ to:
- paintings or other bespoke or unique works of art or craft, gold, silver, gold and silver plated articles, jewellery, watches, gemstones and furs up to €2,500 in total per claim
- Under General Conditions, point 2 (Your Duty of Care) add in as the fourth bullet point reference to contractor(s) having a minimum public liability cover of €2,000,000.
- In respect of alternative accommodation and loss of rent add an exclusion relating to lodgers/paying guests unless we otherwise agree.
PropertyWorks
- Under definition of Contents amend ‘We will not pay for’ to:gold, silver, gold and silver plated articles, jewellery, watches, gemstones and furs.
- Under General Conditions, point 2 (Your Duty of Care) add in as the fourth bullet point reference to contractor(s) having a minimum public liability cover of €2,000,000.
- Under Section 1 – The Property, under Exclusions add as point 3 exclusion relating to accidental damage caused by storm tempest, flood or weight of snow unless the site has been made weatherproof.
Policy Fee
Effective 1st January 2022 our policy fee will see a small increase from €42.50 to €45 for our specialist household product range. Our building works products HomeWorks and PropertyWorks will not see any fee increase.
Additional changes
In addition to the wording and associated document changes we have also:
- Removed the API document from both the new business and renewal documentation packs.
- Added the What’s Changed documents to the renewal invitation document pack.
- Added mid-term adjustment fees onto the policy schedule (will display as €0.00 or nil if there is no MTA fee).
- Removed auto endorsements H1071 (Your Contractors Own Insurance) and 1734 (Infectious or Contagious Diseases Exclusion) as their content has been added in the respective product wordings.
- Updated the renewal quotation email to reference that the What’s Changed document now forms part of the renewal invitation document pack.
- Updated the renewal quotation email to reference that the policy will not automatically renew.
